What kind of questions can I ask?
Literally anything to grow your business. Sales, marketing, operations, finance, legal, creative. There are hundreds of vetted advisers with very diverse experiences and backgrounds, standing by to share their expertise.
What’s a good question?
Think of your question as an advertisement. Tell them who you are, what you are doing, why they should care, and how they can help. Tell a short story that makes an adviser want to stop what she / he is doing, and assist you (or share it with someone who can).
“We are a startup that solves XXX for YYY through ZZZ. We have early adopters and are now raising our first round from investors. We are looking for feedback on our investor deck (attached) before pitching.”
Who will see my question?
We send your request to the most-relevant, willing, and available adviser within your community. Advisers may also share questions with relevant individuals in their own networks.
If you have a confidential / for-your-eyes-only question, please indicate so in the request and we’ll ask advisers not to forward the request.
Can I select advisers to answer my question?
No. We match advisers based on availability, proximity, and competency (among many other factors) and take into account how often an adviser has helped in the past.
Our goal is to let you select the type of adviser and proximity in the future so that we can help you get better advice. Stay tuned!
Can I ask follow-up questions?
If the adviser identifies herself or himself, you are encouraged to reach out and ask for additional help.
Requests made through Protopia are sent to the best adviser available at that time, and we cannot guarantee that this will be the same adviser who answers your earlier question.
Will I know who answered the question?
Most likely. By default advisers are identified alongside their answer. However, we do give advisers the option to anonymize their response . We believe the option is useful for gathering feedback from advisers on a sensitive topic.
How long will it take to get an answer?
Our goal is to get your answers within 3 business days. But it depends on what you’re asking and how many advisers have that expertise. It can go as quickly as an hour to as long as 10 days.
How many answers will I get?
The number of answers depends on how many advisers have relevant experience and are available to provide insights. It may be one, three, five, or more responses.
Will I be able to rate the quality of an answer?
Yes. With each answer we send you we also share a link to a quick survey that we would like for you to complete – on the quality of the answer and the solution.
What if any of the answers were not helpful?
The feedback survey is your best option for letting us know if an answer was not helpful.
Can I ask the same question again if I am not happy with the answers? And would it go to the same advisers?
We encourage you to ask questions as often as you’d like.. However, we cannot guarantee that the same adviser will get the same question as we try to be respectful of every advisor’s time.
Can I ask questions anonymously?
Yes you can. If you let us know with your request that you would like to ask it anonymously, we will protect your identity throughout the process.
We do recommend, if this is your chosen path, that you ensure that none of information you share as part of your question identifies you or your company.
Is there a limit to how many questions I can ask in any given week or month?
No. You can ask as many questions as you would like.
Will my questions and answers to be confidential?
Unless you instruct us, requests and answers may be shared with the community.
What if I don’t get any answers?
In rare cases we may not be able to get you an answer.
Can I reach out to advisers that have answered my question directly?
Yes. In fact, we encourage this. Just keep in mind that you are representing the community and companies.
